Experiences at BWR

More and more people are choosing to invest in experiences rather than things. At BentWire Ranch, everything we offer is an experience. Some experiences are quiet and reflective. Some are hands-on and practical. Some are deeply emotional. Some are designed to help you understand your horse more clearly. All of them are grounded in Intentional Horsemanship, Being Herd & Seen™, and respect for the horse as a sentient, social, highly perceptive being.

You do not need to be an experienced horse person to come here. You only need curiosity, willingness, and a desire to meet horses in a more thoughtful way. At BentWire Ranch, the horses are not props or tools. They are participants, teachers, mirrors, and partners in the experience.

Some of the experiences you might have include:

1. Be With the Herd

Spend supervised time in close proximity to the BentWire herd. This is not a riding lesson or a training session. It is an opportunity to stand quietly among horses, notice how they notice you, and experience what it feels like to be seen by a herd.

With guidance, clients may brush, scratch, breathe, observe, and begin learning simple Horse Speak® skills as the horses choose how they want to interact.

2. Being Herd & Seen™

A guided experience for people who want to understand how horses read human presence, emotion, posture, breathing, movement, and intention. Clients learn how to slow down, become clearer, and begin communicating in a way the horse can understand.

This experience introduces the heart of Intentional Horsemanship.

3. Meet the Teachers

Each horse at BentWire Ranch has a different personality, role, history, and way of interacting with people. Clients meet selected members of the herd and learn how Skeptics, Pawns, Mama Teachers, Mentors, and sensitive horses each offer a different kind of education.

This is a wonderful experience for people who are curious about herd dynamics.

4. Horse Speak® in Real Life

Learn the beginning skills of Horse Speak® through simple, supervised interaction with horses on the ground. Clients may practice greeting, breathing, body orientation, softening, scratching, pausing, and creating clearer communication through space and movement. The goal is not performance.

The goal is to help the horse understand your intention.

5. The Quiet Confidence Experience

For people who feel nervous, unsure, intimidated, or emotionally overwhelmed around horses, this experience offers a safe way to build confidence without pressure. Clients learn how to regulate themselves, read the horse’s response, and take small, successful steps toward connection.

This can be especially meaningful for people returning to horses after a difficult experience.

6. Brush, Breathe, and Belong

A gentle, hands-on experience where clients spend time grooming, scratching, and quietly connecting with a horse who chooses to participate. This is simple, but often deeply moving.

Through brushing and touch, clients begin to feel rhythm, relaxation, trust, and mutual presence.

7. The Herd Observation Walk

Walk the property with a guide and observe the horses as a living herd. Clients learn to notice relationships, boundaries, movement, leadership, comfort, curiosity, protection, and emotional state.

This experience helps people begin to see horses as social, thinking, feeling beings rather than isolated individuals.

8. Find Your Horse Sense

A practical ground-based experience for people who want to become more aware, more intentional, and more effective around horses. Clients learn how their breathing, focus, timing, posture, and emotional state affect the horse.

This is a strong introductory experience for people who want practical horsemanship without riding.

9. The O.Zone Experience

Explore the calm-alert state where horse and human can think, feel, and learn together. Clients learn how to recognize tension, settle their own nervous system, and support a horse in becoming more present and available.

This experience is especially helpful for people interested in emotional regulation, co-regulation, and the deeper science behind connection.

10. Sanctuary Stories

Meet horses from Riversong Sanctuary and learn the stories behind their lives, personalities, and roles within the herd. This experience honors horses as individuals with memory, preference, resilience, and dignity.

It also helps visitors understand that sanctuary horses are not “last resort” animals. They are living well, with space, care, relationship, and purpose.

11. A Day in the Life of the Ranch

Experience the rhythm of BentWire Ranch through feeding, observing, grooming, walking, and learning how a healthy horse environment is maintained. Clients see what it takes to care for a herd and why land, hay, water, movement, space, and relationship all matter.

This is a beautiful experience for people who dream about living with horses or simply want to understand ranch life more deeply.

12. Finding Your Way with Intentional Horsemanship™

A more focused learning experience for people ready to explore the connection between self-awareness and horse handling. Clients work from the ground with guidance, learning how to ask better questions:

  • How is the horse feeling?

  • Am I clear?

  • Am I rushing?

  • Am I helping the horse feel safe enough to learn?

  • How can I best help the horse toward our goal?
